Tal Broda is an Investment Partner at Khosla Ventures, where he focuses on AI infrastructure, frontier compute, technical diligence, and helping founders build and scale AI-native companies. Tal has spent more than 20 years building and operating large-scale infrastructure, engineering organizations, and technical products across AI, capital markets, cloud platforms, and enterprise software.
Most recently, he was VP of Compute and Research Platform at OpenAI, where he founded and scaled the Research Platform organization to several hundred engineers and led the hardware and software systems required to train and serve OpenAI's models. His organization spanned research and applied compute, ML, runtime, systems, kernels, analytics, storage, security, custom silicon, and datacenter infrastructure.
At OpenAI, Tal led GPT-4.5 from inception through production scaling, including rebuilding the training and runtime stack, partnering with Azure on OpenAI’s largest training cluster at the time, and improving model training efficiency, uptime, and throughput. He also worked closely with Azure, NVIDIA, AMD, Oracle, TSMC, SK Hynix, Samsung, and SoftBank on accelerator, datacenter, and infrastructure strategy, and was part of the small team that helped shape Stargate, OpenAI’s $500B AI-datacenter program.
Before OpenAI, Tal was Head of Platform at Citadel Securities, where he built the firm's platform organization and led engineering for distributed systems supporting one of the world's largest electronic market makers. His teams built the firm's Kubernetes platform, CI/CD infrastructure, observability systems, data infrastructure, database platforms, and real-time operational tooling. He also led the development of firm-wide streaming analytics and reporting systems that processed telemetry from every production application and infrastructure component, giving trading teams real-time visibility into the health of the global trading platform.
Earlier in his career, Tal held senior engineering leadership roles at Mesosphere, SOASTA, Oracle, and Istante Software, building cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, real-time analytics platforms, and enterprise software used by some of the world's largest organizations.
Tal holds MBAs from Columbia Business School and the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley, and a B.Sc. in Computer Science from The Academic College of Tel Aviv.
