our portfolio – case studies
It is not well known that meat production is one of the least energy efficient processes in the modern world. Animal farming as a whole using 30% of the earth’s land surface, resulting in nearly 20% of net greenhouse gas emissions, to say nothing of the economic cost per calorie. Meanwhile, virtually all the energy a cow gets for meat production comes from the consumption of high yield plants. We got together with a leading biogeneticist and asked – why can’t you make great tasting meat that is indistinguishable from the real thing, directly from plants without doing any genetic engineering? We’ve since asked the same question about other products. These parallel efforts could revolutionize the food supply and dramatically increase resource availability.
